Biggest News Stories of 2009

(diagram by Naz Şahin & Şerifcan Özcan / GOOD Magazine)
As I do every once in a while I will go check out a fabulous periodical in book stores called GOOD Magazine and take note of some of their visual information graphics they currently have featured, along with reading a few of their interesting geo-political related articles and factoids. This month’s issue features (in my humble opinion) a great visual diagram of 2009’s biggest news stories, with the size of the space it visual occupies in the diagram based on the story’s various media coverage intensity, which is based on calculations done by Journalism.org which monitors dozens of news outlets every week.
What would be even more fantastic is if this could be done for each of the past 40 years or so and then from there compare them all against one another and take note of the attention trends over time. Are you hearing me Naz & Serifcan? Let’s find a way to make this happen. I’m sure that would really shed some interesting insights into how our mainstream news stream really operates.

Whomever owns the rights to Tetris has chance to make GOOD money off of a lawsuit against this publication.
I was thinking more of Qix. And yes, this does age me.
So where’s the mother fucking huge box for Michael Jackson dying?
Balloon Boy?
Tiger?
Who gave a shit about U.S. Terrrorism policies?
pretty big box up there mj death Chad open your friggin eyes dude!!
Tetris? Qix? Really?!
And Ballon Boy is on the lower right. As for Tiger Woods, perhaps he didn’t make the cut because they had already sent this off for publication just before that story broke, which was right after Thanksgiving.
