I can’t quite decide if I like this recent move by Apple or not, but most certainly it has prompted me to make a decision as to whether I will buy a new Mac with a PowerPC chip in it before the close of 2005.

Ya dude like I give a fuck about what’s inside of my computers. All that matters is what you do with the shits.

i’m confused. i haven’t had a computer in almost 2 years so i have no idea what the f*&$ you’re talking about. I’m back to the stone ages. what’s going on? who cares. everyday it’s something new. i give up.

This is only one puzzle piece of the future of Macintosh. Fine for now, but will this mean more PC integration to come? I dunno. Mac applications will continue to work on both types of chip-sets (IBM and intel) for some years. Not to fret. Besides, your brain is the best operating system there is anyway. Continue to do great work.

They did this so that the new G5 powerbooks will work. Apple was having overheating issues with the G5 books, I guess this is their solution to the problem. I also heard that these chips are cheaper to manufacture, so it might also be a dollars game for them…. meaning they are trying to make great computers at lower prices than the pc market.
I think its more of a marketing move, and a way to get more people to switch.

those bastards! my g4 was one of the first of the line, it set itself on fire! something about it being the first model to have the ON button moved from the key board to the tower. the sucker had smoke coming out of it,WHILE IT WAS TURNED OFF. anything they do , that will prevent overheating, is a good thing. make my life easier, damn it. i dont need bbq hard drive.

I pity the fool who mixes Intels and Macs. May as well announce Nintendo and Microsoft are working on the next consoles together! Or maybe they are… hmm. Actually I like Intel, but have more respect for the G series (since I can’t afford them) Anyways since I’m still stuck on Photoshop 7 I guess it doesn’t make much difference what I use.

I agree with both Lauren and Red, it was merely a matter of time and evolution. It will help make Mac and PC integration easier as well as cool the overheating issue. Consider how long Macophiles have been patiently waiting for the long awaited G5 Powerbooks! I have been saving my lunch money from the school bullies for almost a year and a half in anticipation of these bad boys only to hear new slow down of production issues. As long as we (Mac people) don’t have to suffer the problem of Intel processor variations affecting performance output. Consider PC people’s confusion when buying a laptop, having to consider Intel pentium 4, Centrino, and Celeron to name a few… all adding to the already saturated market of chip confusion. Hopefully, it will be one chip for the new Powerbook and not one powerbook with 50 variations of intel chips. On the business side, the stock rose like 2 or 4 percentage points the day the news was released on the Nasdaq trading floor that Apple would form a merger with Intel. Just my take on the issue, now I must return to my beer.

If it works…intel-ligence probably mixes better with the Marketing, Money, and Management side of Mac.
I have my own experience with Marketing as do most designers. So all in all, bottom line and product management have come together to make more money and streamline the Mac and PC worlds. Maybe we should all invest in Intel and at least get something out of it.

Um, I really don’t know if this whole issue matters much in my little world. I’m sure the transition will happen in a so-so manner like everything else. I caught myself this weekend, standing in a bar and chatting with someone about OS X and Rosetta and all that crap. I then immediately stopped, realized the sad über-nerd I had become, and then quickly ran to the bar to drown out the voices in my head.

Mac’s are evil. Keep away from that poisoned Apple!

haha… soon, the pathetic apple rebellion will be crushed.
hey, did anyone else have a star wars marathon this weekend?

I really don’t care, Apple pretty much lost me when they went from System 9 to “OSX.” I used to be really hardcore into this OS/hardware/software shit (ca. 1994), but thankfully those days are long gone. They’re nice machines, but they’re way overpriced and sometimes “prettily-designed” at the expense of key functionality (like the ridiculous orb mouse with no right/left buttons and scroll wheel, come on). Just a tool that I have to use, no more passion for it…although PCs are far worse!

My two cents on this Intel news is that, “As long as the chips keep processing as they are now, well, cool.” Maybe shit will be faster? Maybe not. Whatever makes Mac machines tougher, I’m cool with. It’s the operating systems I’m worried about. I know Macs, and will stay Mac until my final days. Regarding PCs, and Windows and all that, well, “The Dumbest Buy The Mostest” and well, business is good. So maybe Apple is buying into that a bit. There is always gonna be an alternative to the big guy, so I’m just hoping Apple keeps being the smart solution; the smart alternative to the clumsy, un-intuitive Windows shit.

who cares. not liek IBM was less PC-centric than Intel. Faster, cheaper…sounds good.
