Hollywood Shuffle

Extending my birfday festivities I took a weekend drive into Los Angeles to celebrate my post-30th with some Hollywood homies. The cruise down interstate 5 felt like I was in a furnace the entire 5+ hours I was on the road, but the second I ventured onto the 101 freeway I forgot all about my discomfort as I was greeted by two assclowns who tried to clip me in a pseudo “Welcome back to L.A.” moment. Amazingly enough, without even a second thought I switched into “Insane Driver Defensive Mode” to dodge the rest of the Friday night drunks as irony had my mind recall Randy Newman’s “I Love L.A.”….irony indeed as that tune played inside my head until I reached my final destination over at Brad’s place. His new apartment is a much better upgrade from the last one and we shot the shizzle there for a minute before heading out to Bossa Nova for some eats with Rick Grubel in tow along with Brad’s lady-friend Genevive.

The following morning, after playing with Puffy for a bit, Rick & I prowl Burbank for some breakfast before I take off for a little cruising around Chinatown and Olivera street. Later in the afternoon, I head back over to Brads’ where we play some more catch up and I’m astonished to discover that after all these years Dogga, Brad’s spiteful little rat-beast, could not only be in the same room with me without commencing her insistent (and highly annoying) barking/yaps but could also hang out on top of my lap while not acting like a banshee. I’m telling you kids, it was a breakthrough moment.

But the real fun wasn’t until the evening which was kicked off by having dinner over at the Cat & Fiddle with Bill Rude gracing us with his presence along with a co-worker buddy of Brad’s joining us for the meal. Once the food was scarfed down and the chocolate mousse devoured, we headed over to Jumbo’s clown room for some mindless tomfoolary meeting up with Reid, Steve, Nick, Tontrell and Todd on the way there. Needless to say for those that have been to this Hollyweird venue, it’s definitely a niche outing, but well worth it with if you’re hanging with the right crowd. Still, as they say,”what happens at Jumbo’s, stays at Jumbos” and soon it was onto the Blue Monkey to continue our late night mayhem. While there I was able to take pictures of complete strangers using my super-powers of wit & charm….even Genevive joined in on the action pretending to be my jealous girlfriend much to Brad’s dissatisfaction — but we kissed and made up right away. A little while later Reid starting getting fresh so I had to put him in his place. Meanwhile Rick & Nick were busting people up with their poise and wordsmithing as per usual.

And of course what would a trip down to LA-LA land would be like without a Spanky sighting…..pretty darn lousy I’d tell ya. Last, though certainly not least, was the fortuitous opportunity to see Tibisay, her new apartment and meet her pooch Desdemona for the first time. Tibs & I had a late lunch over at Zeke’s and caught up on the latest and greatest before I headed back up to San Francisco to cap off the weekend.

Good times I tell ya, good times….
