Broken Flowers

Maybe it was because I was so gosh-darn tired, but I just couldn’t get into this movie. I saw it late last night out in Berkeley and it had already been a long day for me after being up since 6am to help make sure Susi & CPW caught their early flight out of SFO that morning. Then I meet up with Angela in the city, where we hanged out there for a bit and grabbed a late breakfast (more like lunch) before meeting up with some friends of hers over by UC Berkeley. The brief outing became dinner which afterwards extended itself to “let’s see a flick” which at that point was just past 11pm, and I ain’t young like I used to be. Now don’t get me wrong, I had a blast hanging with Angela and her peeps, but seeing Broken Flowers at that point, after such a busy day, was like having to endure a twelve round boxing match with Mike Tyson and the worse part about it was that no matter how hard I tired I simply could NOT fall asleep in the theater; partly due to the seats being very uncomfortable.
The very fact that I have so far written nothing about the film itself should tell you something about it: DON’T BELIEVE THE OSCAR HYPE AROUND IT. This movie is a yawner. Even with the admirable minimalist performance by Bill Murray (whom I normally love) I still thought it was blah. The overall arty-farty approach is way overrated, and the only notable thing about the movie was a naked Alexis Dziena and even that barely kept my interest. All I got from this movie was a stiff back, lost time and a $7 hole in my pocket. Next.
1½ STARS out of four.

just saw this movie last night at bam, what a weak ending. totally needed another half hour to explain it. it was kind of funny, cuz i dig dry humour, but this was a little blah. went to see pretty persuasion tonight, which was twisted and dry like welcome to the dollhouse. the leade actress is quite good for being so young, evan rachel wood or something like that, she used to be in a show called once and again and then was in a teen flick gone wrong called thirteen. anyways, check it out. if you have any suggestions for decent movies let me know. hope everything worked out with the car that day on 86th. have a good week yo
