Gabriel Lives!!!

After falling off the face of the Earth 4+ years ago I finally reconnected with my long lost friend Gabriel. And the timing couldn’t have been better since our mutual childhood friend J-Ro. was getting married in the next couple of days and I was trying my hardest to track down Mr. Incognito so I could get him to attend her milestone event. I last saw Gabriel five long years ago so it was quite a surprise to see him now with long dreads, which actually looked really good on him!
We hanged out for most of the day in Manhattan and played catch up with each other’s latest and greatest, which like I expected picked up as if we had just seen each other the other day. He stopped by my grandmothers for a little chit-chat and then we met up with my little brother Bobby for lunch. All the while Gabe mentions that he’s expecting to be a new daddy come the end of this year while him and Barbara are finally tying the knot this November. Remarkably, though I’ve heard much about her over the past 7 years, I never actually meet his Fiancee face-to face until today! Barbara was very nice & pleasant and invited me to eat dinner at one of their favorite places near where they live out in New Jersey. All these years I really missed Gabe, and sure I thought he was a punk for being out of touch for so long, but I just simply wanted to know how the guy was doing – and doing great he was still having that charisma, brightness, optimism and charm that he’s always had but ever more so refined. And yeah, he still talks smack on the b-ball court too.
Hopefully it won’t be another five years before I see/hear from Gabe again, but it was great to get back in touch again and I’m happy for both him & Barbara. Next time I’m back out east I’ll have to pay Gabe’s dad and siblings a visit to catch up with them too, but for now I trust Geblee will pass my warmest thoughts to them all.

[...] After spending the past 5 days back in the Big Apple I got to reflect on the latest visit back to my hometown. Inspired to attend the wedding of my childhood friend Jasmine I got to reconnect with Gabriel and the Odens as well as spend some time with the family most notably Nelly, Estela, Bobby and his cats, all up in the ol’ neighborhood. Kathy was originally suppose to be my date for the wedding but got stuck having to work that day, so we just chit-chatted at the Underground Comedy club for a bit. I ran into Douglas a few times while chilling at some of my mom’s old haunts, and it basically evolved into chilling with complete, but very kool, strangers every other night. Hands down some of the best fun I’ve had in a long while. I even randomly reconnected with Anna who I first befriended 5 years ago, yet we grew up right across the street from each other but never meet prior to our early twenties. Weird. [...]

Great pics, love seeing Gabriel…there’s been plenty of times I THOUGHT I saw him in the streets of El Barrioe and yell his name, once only, to see if it was him. To see his dreads now I believe it wasn’t.
Gabe, if you read this anytime soon you look great and congrats on the family. Maybe one day we can connect as well, that is if you remember me.
Peace and Love
