Alan Houston retires…FINALLY!

Today Alan Houston, #20, who played for the New York Knicks for the past 9 years has decided to hang it up after determining that he couldn’t return to 100% form from his chronic knee problems of the last few years. All I have to say is Good Ridance!!! Not that Houston wasn’t a good player, in fact throughout his career he averaged 7 points a game and was a solid outside shooter, ranking within the top 15 all-time of 3-pointers made.

However, it needs to be noted that Houston’s hefty $100 million dollar contract helped cripple the Knicks financially for years, especially once he got hurt and was unable to be traded. But current Knick management via those Wacky Dolan’s, who own Cablevision, is also to blame for that blunder. The Dolan’s have practically gutted this franchise (including the N.Y. Rangers hockey team that they also manage) since taking over operations of the team over eight years ago. With that said, newly hired Knick head coach Larry Brown  suffers no fools so he probably had a hand in helping Houston to “retire” because, at the Garden, you can only have one overpaid person courtside at any given time.

I admit that as a fan it’s easy to criticize and ridicule, but the reality is with Houston’s departure, the outlook looks good for the Knicks this season. They brought in Eddy “heart attack waiting” Curry in a trade from the Bulls, helping to get rid of three under-sized power forwards — with just 8 more to go. And since they play in the Eastern Conference, the Knicks are virtually assured of at least a 5th place seeding in the playoffs this year, if not higher, if they can compile a 35-47 season record!

Exciting, eh?!

Plagiarist! Stop stealing my thunder. The Knicks are still going to stink as long as Marbury has the ball in his hands (80% of the time). But then again, I’m sure you’ll miss the Charlie Batch / Frank Williams days just like I miss the Vontego Cummings / Todd Fuller era. The Warriors are going to dominate when they match up (most likely in the regular season only).
