Transient

A couple weeks back while out enjoying a dinner at a sushi restaurant Tia Susi & I discussed our voting choices for the recent Walnut Creek propositions. It was a warm converstation until I mentioned the fact that I did not vote in favor of building a new library near city hall because as I understood the proposal it would become a) more expensive over time to develop than what was being outlined by the proposition and b) ultimatley it would encroach upon the physical space of Civic Park which I felt was a no-no and demonstrated poor future planning. Susi didn’t see it that way and was shocked that I would vote against building a library; from there I was dubbed a “Transient”.
Yes ma’am, dem are fighting words!
For the record I’m all for building more libraries, no questions asked — I just didn’t feel this was the right solution this time around. I do agree that the current library in downtown desperately needs to be replaced because it’s so outdated and has too small of a collection of books and resources. I just don’t feel the new library should be built without adequate long term expansion in mind that doesn’t need to diminish neighboring civic resources, so I wasn’t convinced that this particular proposal was one worth having the tax payers get stuck with the difference should the project go over budget, as they most often do.
But hey, at least I do vote!

and remember it would completely fuck up my friends house/property that is behind the library. That family has been at that house for generations, and the city just wanted to boot their butts out.
I’m all for a new reading dig, but damn they couldn’t find out another place to put a library? How about tear down some of those foo foo fuckin’ stores, and put in one? mmm… oh wait, that’s right the city wouldn’t make any sales tax revune that way……
I’ll keep you in tune to the constant funnies of this crackahasstown

Actually, my understanding was that this the eminent domain issue regarding the family that did not want to sell had been settled amicably and the city would NOT be taking over their property. If there is a reliable source that has info to the contrary I would appreciate seeing it. Thanks! Oh, and we do pay property taxes, and for us this would be worth the small proposed increase.
With respect to Broadway Plaza — its too late to fight that battle. As long as they bring in revenue, they are here to stay. Just don’t shop there! You can join the rest of us at the SunValley Mall.
