GOCCO facing hard times

One of the most clever & crafty screenprinting devices of the last 25 years is looking like it’s closing up shop. This is the primary tool I’ve used to create some awesome postcards over the past several years and I just can’t imagine not having it around!
I first heard of the sad news on Draplin’s website but apparantly RISO’s Gocco sales are down by 40% and the Japanese-based company is planning to discontinue the product. This is terrible as it’s such a wonderful tool and it would be a tradegy to see it go away. RISO says there is enough supplies for another three years, but the actual screenprinting kits are no longer being produced — so I can only imagine a flood-rush of people with systems trying to stock pile on bulbs and screens before the year is out.
Though things looks grim, there currently is a campaign out to save Gocco and possibly maintain it’s distribution (atleast outside of Japan) if it can be acquired by another company. PLEASE, I URGE YOU, especially if you have one of these nifty little systems, to visit this site to learn how you can help keep Gocco alive!!!

[...] A collection of limited edition artwork produced using the Gocco system is on display at the Wurst Gallery out in Portland, Oregon. I ordered the Gocco submission of Aaron Draplin, a fellow MCAD alumn, and I eagerly anticipate it’s arrival. There’s also quite a few other stunning pieces being showcased, and it’s great to see this medium get it’s due in the sun despite the announcement by RISO to discontinue supporting the system over the next 3 years.
