farewell america…

Filed Under: Adventures & Travels, The Usual Rant

Today is the last day I’ll be in the United States for the next twelve months. Tomorrow I embark on a new chapter in my life and begin a master’s program abroad in Europe. London specifically.
I’ve tried to make both the living overseas and the school thing happen independently many times over the past several years so I’m fortunate now, finally, to be able to fulfill both goals at the same time. I don’t know what to expect of it yet, as it’s a bit surreal at this point. All I know is that I’ve always tried to take things in stride, so I guess this really isn’t different than any other move I’ve made. But, yet it very much is. Weird.
Though I’m looking forward to the change of scenary I already know that I’ll miss the following things:
001. A firm matress
002. Sunshine
003. Home Cooking
004. Friends and Family
005. my gocco kit
006. Tia Susi & CPW’s daily commentaries
007. The Desert
008. Tomfoolary in public w/ co-workers
009. Jasmine’s sassy voicemails
010. Fried Plantains
011. Tibisay (nothing new there)
012. MCAD peeps
013. Phone chats with KJ
014. The New York Knickerboxers (well, at least in principle)
015. Clean water
016. Warm water
017. Sensible mass transit
018. A steady paycheck (but not crappy jobs)
019. My entire record/CD collection
020. Taking pictures of Peter passing out on the couch.
021. Late nights with Bobby
022. A love life.
023. Freedom at it’s fullest
…and many more. But that’s where I hope emails and blogging will help keep distances short. Especially those of the heart. For now, farewell to all I’ve ever known and I hope to see you all again soon as a more improved me.

Clean water? We have that.
Mass transit? Unlike NY, the London Underground doesn’t get shut down by a tramp.
Firm mattresses? We have that.
Warm water? We got that last year.
Freedom? We don’t have George Bush, you do.
Where on earth do you think you’re moving to?
I look forward to seeing you here and setting a few things straight!

I’ll make it up to you over many pints of local brew if you can get your butt out here sometime this year!

And for Rusty, yeah you’ll have to learn me on the ways of the Brits now that you’re pretty much a settled bloke these days.
