Camden Town

Did my first round of clubbing here in London last night. I ventured north of the Thames River with fellow MA classmate Sara to meet up with David and his flatmate Nick at Barfly’s. Of course the night had to start with a couple of glitches, the first of which I forgot to grab Spyros like I said I would on the way out, but over the phone he said he rather take the bus and meet up with the other LCC people near the school. Koolio right?! WRONG! After Sara helps me decide to purchase a £4.90 all day transit pass, I realize I lost the frigging thing when we’re about to exit the tube. ARRGH!!! Once out of the Camden Town underground station I call David and he tells me to meet up with him at the Lock Tavern instead, which is just down the street from Barfly’s. Little do I know, Sagun and the others will soon arrive later and go into Barfly’s were apparently there was a £8 cover ($14) to get in, so when I get her text she’s like “what the fudge!?”

In spite of the minor “mis-communication” stuff, I had a jolly-time hanging out with my classmates and the rest of the gang seemed to share a similar sentiment. Besides, what would an evening out be like with some adventure right? I did feel bad though about the mix up though so I bought Sagun, Eleni and Agelos a round of drinks. Jamie graced us with his suave presence over at Barfly’s, where we all ended up for the reminder of the night afterall.

Some of the highlights of the evening included encouraging Sara to buy a round a drinks for the both of us, getting into weird & random conversations with complete strangers (well, actually that’s nothing new for me), being offered “skunk” every 20 paces from the tube station to the bar, listening to some kool music selections, trying my first local beer (which sadly now I can’t remember the name, something like “London Shield” I think), watching some dude bust his face trying to do the worm on the dance floor and watching Spyros sober up as me, him and Sara got lost near Trafalgar Square trying to find our bus to get back home.
