Brats in the Olympics

You know, I’m really tired of watching people who are representing my country in the Olympics act like spoilsports when they lose. There’s too much sense of entitlement within Amercian athletes today, especially those who compete in games abroad. It’s okay to have high expectations and expect to win, but when you don’t win, regardless of the excuses and/or reasons, just act with some grace and humility about it. There’s nothing worse than watching your home country miss out on reaching the Olympic gold round than watching them act like brats after the fact. Case in point is the USA women’s hockey team goalie Chanda Gunn who refused to take center ice in the traditional post-game handshake after the U.S. upset loss to the Swedish national team.

The 2006 Winter Olympics are currently being held in Turin, Italy where another disappointing result was that of U.S. snowboarder Lindsey Jacobellis, who ending up finishing 2nd for silver. She had the gold medal won, but decided on the next-to last jump to showboat a little and landed wrong, losing time to her closest rival….some 30+ seconds away!!! I ain’t mad at her for being young, talented and knowing it, but seal up the victory first before you start celebrating. Dummy.
