Major Project Proposal

Today I had to present my major project proposal to my fellow classmates and tutors. It basically outlines what I’ll be working on for the next six months and serves as my MA thesis. After intially considering to explore & anaylize the multiple ways graphic design manifests itself as graphic dissent, I decided instead to shift towards the study of postcards and it’s uses & perceptions in popular culture.
Basically, I seek to answer the following questions:
• What makes a postcard unique?
• What do postcards say about our society & values?
• How do people typically interact with the medium?
• Do the majority of available postcards offer an accurate representation of our culture (either local or regional) or does it just reinforce sterotypes?
• Can the format be utilized in other clever ways to promote broader exchanges of dialogue and direct action?
During some preliminary research I learned about deltiology as well getting some additional insights while browsing through some interesting postcards for conceptual reference.
But at this point I would really like to know what everyone thinks about this idea in general? Does it sound too cheesy? What other ideas or suggestions do you think are worth considering? Any and all comments are greatly appriecated.
