Old Glory

Oddly enough, I woke up this morning and didn’t realize what day it was until my classmates started singing Old Glory as I walked into my book-binding workshop. So much to be proud of on this day. Yet equally there’s also much to be unproud of as well. Until Bush & Co. are out of government I’ll continue to have mix feelings about this holiday. In the meantime, I’m gonna be on the look out for some firewoks here in Britian and have myself an illegal block party.

Yes, Jamie I know exaclty what you mean. Although I, myself, am a republican I always question what Bush and Dick think they are up to. But if we still can’t find any fireworks, we can always go dump some tea in the fountain at Buckingham…haha…although I think they would arrest us Yanks for doing that…but it might be worth it.

This is the perfect place to celebrate any nationality. As you have noticed London it\’s full of flags from every corner of the world, so… God save the Queen and bless America! hehehehe

i wonder if the space program has the “george w. bush” gas card. at a half ton a second burn rate for that shuttle, no wonder the rest of us have to pay 50 bucks to fill up our tanks!!! god bless george dubya!!!

I’m not a patriot in any country! But in the United States I am especially conflicted for it is my home, the place I love, but it does not love me or my people. I refuse to take pride in a hipocritical holiday that celebrates independence . . . independence for whom? And at whose expense? Yeah, the hard core days of Indian and Black enslavement and segregation are in the past, but those of us labeled ethnic, colored, minority and other more derogatory terms, still have struggles to face.
So I say the struggle lives and power to the people!

It was a brutally boring day in S.F. - the most exciting thing that happened for me was watching Italy pull out that last-minute (literally) win against the Germans. I have a feeling the fireworks’ll be going all night in my neighborhood - I’m not getting any sleep tonight.

Dubya needs to be straight kicked in his nutz. He gives me worms!
Took Jakob out to see the fireworks last night and he had a blast.
We had a BBQ here on the 3rd. My brother came over and informed me, rather casually, that he was at a bar and had a few drinks with my future ex-husband Derrek Lee of Chi Cubs fame. AND, the asshole didn’t even bother to call me. He’s officially dead to me.
Anyway, hope all is well. Find me on myspace sometime!

The fourth was no extra special day for me. Had barbeque… that is, Korean Barbeque… Yum! Boy was it yummy. As the fireworks were shooting into the SF sky, I was devising clever ways to get out of the country.

Though a little bit after the fact, go check out this brief and poignant article titled Put Away the Flags by Howard Zinn.

i didn’t think about it til you mentioned it - the mixed feelings explained by how ashamed we are at what a mess we’re making in the world. i miss old days where we raised a glass to old glory. nobody mentioned it this year. i was in a small town in northern cali with my family. they’ve put on a 4th celebration for 104 years - with 3 legged races and sprints and games for kids and all. a guy reads the declaration of independence. for the last 6 years (?) it’s amazed me how the king george we rebeled against resembles the clown in the white house. peace all and a 4th worth celebrating will come again>>> dean
