Dublin

I finally made a trek out to England’s closest island neighbor and the source for all those New York Irish folks when I ventured to Dublin the other week. My first impression as I was flying into the country was how beautifully clear and green the landscape looked all around. All weekend I would witness firsthand just how pristine and beautiful Ireland really is.

After getting a big & chunky green visa entry stamp inside my passport I headed to O’Connell Street where I was greeted by my LCC classmate Dave and from there he gave me a brief tour of Dublin before he would later wow me with his driving “within regulation” prowess while outside the city. He showed me some ancient headstones in Glendalough as well as some other monastic ruins nearby.

Later that same evening we hooked up with Dave’s buddy and ladies’ man Mitch Mick and began our Guinness drinking binge, just outside of Dublin. But once that novelty wore out we went straight into the big city and as luck would have it we landed in a pub that was featuring a live jam session night with traditional Irish music being played with Dave’s pal Badger in the thick of it all. After like the 10th Guinness we hit up another bar with our new American friend who was chilling solo in Ireland and seemingly wanted some action from David, but he declined preferring another round of drinks… what a stud!

I spent the rest of the weekend with Jamie Delaney at his parents Irish “Chateau” not far from the Wicklow Mountains, and talk about a pristine countryside! Plenty of sheep, horses and cattle to been seen while driving along the rural landscape. Along with his brother and several of his peeps, Jamie showed me some of the trendy nightlife outside of Dublin which I think partly explains why people choose to drink so much out here ;-)

We tried to get into an annual outdoor music festival the next day, but like a stack of dynamite that plan blew up in our face as Jamie and his firend was one ticket short. I tried to sneak into the concert with the wrist band Jamie gave me but it snapped when I was trying to slip it on, and then a local “undercover” garda (cop) snatched me up and started asking me all these silly questions and proclaiming, among other things, he’s having a bad day too because “his wife just left him for another woman!”. Straight out of a movie I tell ya. After enduring several more minutes of judicial posturing the garda and his fellow associates let us be on our way and I enjoyed the rest of my Sunday afternoon feeling like a completely regressed jackass.

Outside of that aforementioned incident I had a great time in Ireland and would love to visit here again. Dave & Jamie are class acts and know how to show a homie a good time. From the little I saw of it Ireland really is a beautiful place worthy of anyone’s travel agenda. Or at least a good pint of Guinness.

My name is Mick not Mitch. Mitch is that bastard off Baywatch. Were you calling me Mitch all night Jaime - I must have been drunk. Glad you had a good time though.

Mitch. Mick. What’s the difference?!

Seriously, my apologies good sir. Booze is no excuse, but good god can that Guinness blur things sometimes.

By the way, my name is spelled “Jamie” not “Jaime”. Just incase that booze is still lingering on your end.
