Atsushi in London

As luck would have it, fellow MCAD alumn Atsushi Ishizuka was in London these past 10 days and I was fortunate enough to hang out with my former L.A. neighbor a few times during his time touring the Queen’s land.

Even took the obligatory Picadilly Circus photo for him.

I made the mistake of having us grab some drinks initially over at a place called Chiquitos down in Leicester Square. Service in London is generally crap as it is, but this place was just revolting. On top of waiting for what seemed like weeks to get a first round of pints at the non-busy bar and disinterested bartenders, the “new guy” gives us Corona instead of the Carling I had asked for and then stares at me blankly as if I don’t know what I just ordered. Retard. Luckily, the Indian dinner we had later in the evening made up for that lifeforce depleting experience.

Then we hooked up again a few days later over in Shoreditch to watch DJ Spookey perform live, only to find out we missed him by a day. Angela and I didn’t mind, nor did the rest of our crew.

I showed him around my college he remarked at how clean it was. I think he was just exhausted from the past week of walking all over the place because no-way is LCC clean. We grabbed some dinner across the street at Nando’s trying some brazilian brew with our meal. And then we chilled for one last time before he set sail the following day onto his next of 4 remaining European destinations.

It was great seeing Atsushi as usual, but I couldn’t help tease him about how I see him more OUTSIDE of Los Angeles than when were were actually living there just a few miles apart all that time. Funny how that works. While he was in London-town we just played catchup, talked some design, MCAD, kicked back plenty of pints, and discussed the love/hate quality of life in L.A. It’s too bad he decided to return to Japan to live and work, but now I have a good excuse to visit Tokyo in the near future!

 Wish I was there, looks like a lot of fun, it’s too bad that Atsushi never made it to aspen to snowboard. By the way Jamie, your looking very stylish with your green hat. Has London fashion rubbed off on ya?

: ) L.

Believe it or not Lauren, I bought that hat back in San Francisco and the green jacket in Los Angeles. Go figure.

Did the Indian dinner leave you guys with ‘Delhi Belly’?
