The Fog of War

I borrowed this documentary film from the LCC library and I was captivated by it’s premise. It features former U.S. Secretary of State Robert McNamara (now 85), under the Kennedy administration, narrating and disscusing the handling of the Vietnam war and offering a fresh perspective on some critical lessons to be learned from that juncture point in history, and how those insights might best be applied to today’s political climate.
On one hand the film helps to outline why it’s important to be more critical and skeptical before military engagement takes place. However, I felt the film could’ve pushed the subject much further and that it falls a bit short of really driving home some actions people can take on a grass-roots level to prevent their governments from entering and/or prolonging unneccesary wars.
Still, I think the film is worth watching to get peek from the excutive branch side of the Vietnam war and the 11 leassons offered at the end of the DVD is something valid to ponder in everyday life, both for the citizen and the public servant.
