1st postmark ever

As I wrap up my MA thesis work, my tutor Tony Credland mentioned to me about a plaque commemorating the very first postmark ever issued. Considering I’ve been working on a taxonomy of postcards these last 6 months, I though it might be worth a look for myself.
So, heading his advice I took a mini-excursion over near Princes & Threadneedle street in central London and after a few wayward turns I managed to locate the plaque and took a photo of it. I’ll have to find a way to include this image in my thesis report, but in general, how kool is that to know the very first postmarks in the world were being produced right on that spot!?
