Happy Holidaze!

With my relatives returning back to New York the day before, this year’s Christmas marks the first time I’ve spent it without family and away from the United States. Luckily some friends invited me over for X-mas dinner. All of the London transit systems were shut down after 10pm on X-mas eve and won’t be available again until the 26th, so it was about an hours hike by foot to Sabika’s place.

Now that Sabika has finally moved into her new flat, she invited a bunch of us over to commence a house-warming of sorts on X-mas day. It was great to spend the holiday with her, along with Thao, Spyros, Dimitri and his Greek friends. A couple of Sabika’s Iranian friends were also there as well, and eventually we were all playing a version of black jack that had the objective to reach 31 instead of 21 — Greek style I’m told. Then we played some game were you had to avoid getting the ace of spades or you’re branded “the devil”. Fun stuff.

Spyros & Dimitris found a great turkey to cook while Sabika put the touches on damn near everything else. All the food was great and they even had dessert prepared as well! It was Dimitris first time preparing an X-mas meal on his own and I’d say he did a fabulous job. But of course Spyro & Sabika took it up a notch and handed out presents to everyone, how sweet was that?!

Then to end the night in style and in the X-mas spirit we gathered around in the living room and watched Bad Santa starring Billy Bob Thornton. Nothing like a “classic” holiday film to put us all in the giving mood
