MCAD’s Brooklyn reunion
March 25th, 2007
Filed Under: NYC, Snapshots, Special Occasions, friends
Just a month back in New York City and I’m fortunate enough to attend one of the MCAD alumni reunions held here every couple of years. Got to see some ol’ familiar faces along with some new ones along with a guest appearance by sculpture master Kinji Akagawa who gave brief but inspiring speech; I later bugged him about questions of how to balance being an instructor while doing your own professional work outside the classroom to which he replied “the secret is longevity, and staying active in what you like to do no matter how small the steps.” He makes it sound so easy, doesn’t he?!
Later on a posse of us former MCADians including Kevin Wideman, Miki Araki, Yayoi Sawada and Eric Ishii Eckhardt along with honorary MCAD alumn Tim Daly (Miki’s Husband), played some pool and got some eats to keep the night rocking. Good times.
