A sad, sad day for Timberwolves fans.
Kevin Garnett is a standout basketball phenom who has spent his entire 12 year pro career in Minnesota, but is now headed to the Boston Celtics after the trade was annouced yesterday. T-Wolves General Manager Kevin McHale wasn’t going to look good no matter how he dealt with a trade of Garnett, but he really has got to be the biggest GM idiot of the lot. I’m sure Boston fans aren’t complaining, and if anything McHale has probably cemented his status as a former Celtic great with this move.
I was living in Minneapolis at the time when KG first came into the league and there was so much promise in those early years. But after falling two games short of the NBA finals 3 years ago, the karmatic results from the blunderous personnel moves by GM Kevin McHale over the years have keep the T-Wolves out of real contention (and the playoffs) these last few seasons. So, although it’s a heartbreaker for Minnesota fans (and I truly do empathize), I’m happy that KG has a real chance again to win that elusive NBA championship because, unfortunately, Minnesota management wasn’t doing squat to build a contender anytime soon.
KG is truly a class act on & off the court (seemingly a rarity these days in sports), his basketball skills are unquestioned, and to his credit he never demanded to be traded and in fact he has always insisted that he wanted to win a championship with Minnesota. He will always be the face of the T-Wolves so it’ll be strange to see him in another uniform, especially shamrock green.
And just like that the Garnett era is over in Minnesota….gone in a whimper no less.

The t-wolves also get two #1 draft picks! Now all McHale needs to do is sign Joe Smith to a wink, wink 1 year contract.

Nice one CPT, er, I mean “Randall”
And how Joe Smith is still in the league is beyond me, yet somehow he managed to sign a 2year deal with Chicago a couple of weeks ago… talk about legacy players… McHale must’ve promise him an upcoming trade to the T-Wolves, again.

They gave up a ton to get him in beantown.

…now if we can just get
the T-Wolves out of Minnesota…

Kevin certainly didn’t come cheap. I really hope we don’t end up kicking our selves if Al Jefferson becomes a star. 2 first round draft picks kinda hurt too. Regardless, I look forward to Boston at least having a .500 season.

Three aging superstar’s(1 ball)who play no defense, a G.M. who has not pulled off a decent deal in years,(seven players for a guy who can walk away in a year) a coach who used to throw up bricks when he was playing, a city that some people call up- south and you got the makings a championship team –right?? Now give me some of that stuff that you are smoking.

Boston goes from 100/1 odds of winning the NBA Title, to 4/1-5/1 odds. Gave up too much for 3 players who have been singular stars for the majority of their careers.
McHale will screw up anything you give him, so that won’t work out, but there is always the event that he is helping out the team that paid him while he was a player.
Doesn’t matter, the allegedly “boring” Spurs will win their much deserved Back-to-Back Championship in the 07-08 Season.
