I-35W Bridge Collapse
August 1st, 2007

I just recently heard on the news that the bridge section of Interstate 35W bridge near University Avenue in Minneapolis collapsed during the evening rush hour just a few hours ago, and all I could think about was making sure that my close friends still living there, along with their family & friends, weren’t in harms way today… get at me either through this blog, email, txt-msg or phone to let me know you and your kin-folk are alright.
I used to cross that bridge all the time while residing in the Twin Cities so it’s just surreal to see it reduced to rubble now.
Sadly there’s already been reports of several deaths caused from the collapse along with scores of people injured and several more stranded on the section that didn’t submerge completely into the Mississippi River. I hope everyone that is affected by this today is for the most part okay and safe as possible from harm.

I got a text message about it once I turned on my phone from a flight. Ken Sakurai was in that area when it happened, he sent me some pics.

We (randy and I) are lucky to have avoided this disaster. Normally we take River Rd home. We pass right under the area where the school bus fell at 5:30-5:45. For some reason I took the train home that day.
