Radio City Christmas Spectacular

Berliners in NYC, day 6

Rockefeller Center X-Mas show

Yesterday was a jam packed adventure of leisure activities, site seeing, and the Rockettes. Yep, first thing we did was go down to Radio City Music Hall and watch the annual Christmas Spectacular show, commemorating it’s 75th anniversary no less. It’s been ages since I last saw a show at RCMH and it didn’t disappoint. The main concessions area had a massive tree chandelier and even the bathrooms were huge and lounge like, including these chill mannequins.

The show itself was really great. It opens up with a couple of dance routines and then you put on 3-D glasses for a Santa sleigh ride sequence that’s digitally animated, but manages not to look too cheesy. They used a digital scenic backdrop for some of the other routines with it’s best effect coming when they did a virtual bus tour with an almost to scale city tour bus rotating on the stage in perspective to the scenery behind it making it appear as if it was really moving all throughout the city. Very cleverly done I thought.

The wooden soliders part where they slowly fall back on one another was amazing! Towards the end of the show they threw confetti onto the audience which was so long I got tired of trying to find the end of it and wrapped the remainder on my forearm.

After the show when trotted over to Rockefeller Center to check out the X-Mas tree and Prometheus fountain where Mike could capture some old-school polaroid shots and we all could grab a quick bite to eat. On the way to the Apple store on 5th avenue we passed by St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Tiffany’s before making a pit stop at the Apple Store on 5th avenue. Then we strolled through Central Park were the squirrels we out in full force looking for winter food while Aurore snapped some pics of them ravaging the park.. Eventually we made it over the Metropolitan Museum of Art where we met up with Mike’s brother Shaun. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see as much as we wanted since the museum wasn’t open too late.

We headed back to the Upper West Side and got some mom & pop Mexican food discussing who would star in a rag-tag casting of B actors in a Star Wars remake (think Tony Danza as Han Solo and chanting “LEIA!” instead of “ANGELA!”) before ending the day watching the movie I AM LEGEND. It was a very long, but excruciatingly fun day indeed.
