Canon SD850 IS

I got my very first digital camera over 4 years ago and it’s been nothing short of a work horse the whole time. The amount of money I’ve saved over the years from buying & developing film is staggering, probably somewhere in the range of $24,000… that’s over 30,000 pictures!
Sadly though, my Canon S400 has seen better days and after it completely broke down on me recently it was time to shell out for a replacement. Besides, I could only borrow friends & family’s cameras so many times.
I’ve always been partial to Canon cameras but I was tempted this time around by an Olympus Stylus 830 and the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T70 before settling on the Canon SD850 IS which is way better than the current top of the line model SD950 IS in my opinion, not to mention $100 cheaper.
The only thing I don’t like about this new camera is the awkward place where the power button is located, just above the LCD screen on the back, which is very counter-intuitive ergonomically speaking. I’ve also noticed after just a few weeks how easily scratchable the camera is with exception to the scratch resistant screen. Other than that, the new camera is a super-duper upgrade from my old Canon S400 featuring 8 megapixel resolution, 4x optical & digital zoom (16x combined!), a high ISO up to 1600, a 2.5″ LCD screen, VGA video quality up to 640×480 at 30fps and a solid image stabilization system to minimize blurring due to the camera shaking from slight hand movements.
All in all, it’s a great digicam, I’m very happy with it and I look forward to snapping another boatload of pictures using it!
