Say “Hell No” to NYC congestion proposal

Are you kidding me?!
I just saw this advertisement earlier today and I couldn’t help but laugh in utter disgust. Who does the mayor think he’s fooling? His proposed congestion charge plan for NYC won’t help cut auto emissions and alleviate traffic significantly, but it sure will add extra costs to living in this already overpriced city. Geez, aren’t we taxed enough already? How long before all of Manhattan is a congestion zone, and then have the other 4 boroughs follow suit?! Yeah, it’s working so well in London I hear… for the city’s bank account and big brother surveillance systems that is.
And besides, if you live in New York City then why do you own a car in the first place?! NYC has one of the best public transit systems in the world, so how foolish is that?
Here’s an idea: why don’t you charge a higher tax on the price of gas up from the current 20-40ยข per gallon to say $1.50 - $2.00, and then use that extra money to fund sustainable development programs & solutions? Oh the horror and outrage that would initially be caused… but I bet you that more people would drive a lot less as a result, thus emitting A LOT LESS AUTO POLLUTION, ween us off our oil habit and cut down on traffic. And maybe, just maybe, the crosstown bus might then have a chance to be faster than my feet.
