Birds nesting in front of my window

Not surprisingly here in New York you have birds fussing about near your windows. But this sparrow happened to make a nest for themself underneath my air-conditioner unit as I recently discovered. The momma sparrow (see picture below) was just across the way keeping an eye on things, in particular me. However I needed to remove the a/c unit in order to ventilate my bedroom so now the nest is exposed to the elements. It rained hard last night and I tried to help by placing an umbrella outside to keep them covered but momma sparrow got the begezus scared out of her and flew off to god knows where. *SIGH* I think I’ll put the a/c unit back onto the window ledge tomorrow until the chick hatches.
