Tube Booze Ban

I only just got back to London and it appears that the city is getting less fun these days. Recently elected conservative mayor Boris Johnson will issue a city-wide ban on public drinking on all of the London Transport services, most notably the famous subway system London Underground, as a way to curb some public drunkenness concerns.
However, a cross section of the city’s residents is up in arms over this and a particular group of concerned citizens against the ban called the Manifesto Club are organizing a light hearted protest of the legislation inviting Londoners via Facebook to participate in the protest. Basically, people interested in protesting the ban were to gather at Liverpool Street tube station around 8pm and ride one of the tube lines (the circle-line to be exact) until the ban officially takes effect. Now guess what I did last night?
Yep, I was there, at least for the first half of the night, chilling with my London rude-boy Matt. Theme as set as a 1920’s prohibition party and basically Boris Johnson protesters and public-drinking affectionadoes would ride on the tune over some champange, spirits, and beer to demostrate responsibile public drinking and just having a good time with the situation. Ironically, I never drank any alcohol on the tube before this night.
As a side note, there was a bit of a conspiracy theory brewing as we were waiting for the circle-line train to show up initially … constantly being delayed! After about 20 minutes of a waiting some of protest/party gatherers thought TfL was purposely delaying it and thus when one showed up yet again ON THE OPPOSITE PLATFORM for the 4th or 5th time, everyone rushed over to the other side and took over the carriages. From there the fun really began. However, the next day I read in the news that the scene later that evening become rowdy yet somehow I doubt it based on what I had seen that evening.
But in conclusion it was lots of fun, very friendly, and Matt & I even made a couple of new friends in personable community workers Vicky & Susie, but was cut tragically short when Matt’s bladder got the better of him and thus we scampered off to find the loo.
