Hillary Clinton is out of the race, or is she?!

Political cartoon illustrating shotgun wedding bewteen a joint Obama/Clinton Democratic Party ticket

New York senator Hillary Clinton has officially bowed out of the Democratic Party presidential nomination race. Yet no sooner is she throwing her full support for both party unity and towards electing DNC rival Barack Obama President of the United States, then there is already talk about her possibly still getting on the U.S. Presidential ticket as the V.P. candidate.

*UGH*

Lord helps us, and nothing personal to Hillary fans, but I just don’t see how this combination can work especially when you consider the fact that Hillary is a package deal that automatically brings her husband & former POTUS Bill Clinton into the mix of things — how does that work for Obama if he is the top candidate on the Democratic ticket, and is supposedly representative of the fresh face of change (”that we can believe”) that people are saying they want? If he has an “old Washington” politician running for the White House along with him doesn’t that confuse his campaign’s vision and the voters expressed desire for “real” change? Besides that, why would Hillary even want to play runner-up in the first place?

But what’s even more potentially distressing is listening to some people who were/are Hillary supporters indicating that they might vote for Senator John McCain this fall instead of Senator Obama simply because Hillary is now out of the race. Are you kidding me!?

Forgive me if I have a hard time understanding that position — you were initially willing to vote for a Democratic party candidate, and now you want to vote Republican?! Did you not pay attention to BOTH of the Democratic candidate’s platforms each stressing the importance of kicking the Republicans out of the White house this November regardless of who is the DNC nominee??? Besides, although they do offer contrasting styles of dealing with the issues at hand, for the most part the Hillary & Obama Presidential campaigns actually have VERY SIMILAR goals to each other, so how can you go from wanting to vote for Clinton to now wanting to vote for McCain??? Not only does that make zero sense, it’s absolutely retarded!

Political cartoon illustrating Hilary Clinton & Yogi Berra

As much as I can understand where some of the old & new school feminists are disappointed with Hillary not getting the Democratic nomination, why can’t they seem to look at the bigger picture here. She’s accomplished some AMAZING things during her bid for POTUS, and will continue to be a role model for women in politics everywhere giving them more drive and inspiration to conduct their own campaigns for office in the years to come. Why would you want to undermine that future optimism and groundbreaking effort by voting for effectively a third term of George W. Bush policies under McCain? Surely Barack Obama still presents a much better alternative to the last 8 years of a disastrous Republican White House, even for a male, right?

Think about it.

I think it would be a huge mistake for Obama to run with Hillary. She needs to be done with it. That is why as a woman I wouldnt vote for her. Even though Im expected too. Dont know why. She certainly doesnt represent me! Maybe I should vote for McCain?

Yes, not a good match. For once I was looking forward to the campaign. If Hillary makes it as VP candiate, it will ruin the bigger picture. I really do feel that OBAMA is the man that will make a change. We’ll see. I don’t think it’s going to happen, too many people will most likely be against her joining his side…

I’m pretty baffled by the Hillary supporters turning to McCain. I wonder how many of them really would? It makes no sense, unless you assume that they only backed her in the first place because she’s a woman, and with no regard for the issues. That’s the lowest kind of voter, in my book - the one who treats an election like a soap opera or a popularity contest, instead of considering that the future of the country is at stake.

What a loaded issue. By suspending her candidacy Hillary has left open every door possible “if” something was to surface that is heavily damaging to BHO. As for those of you that are questioning why her supporters would flip to McCain here’s my take: with the exception of the military, he is about as liberal a Republican available. I can’t stand the thought of either McCain or BHO being the leader of the country. What this country really needs is a strong national candidate that refuses to take shit from anyone. Someone that can use common sense to lead a nation woefully lacking in it lately.

My two cents.

Thanks for chiming in everyone.

It’s sad that a sizable number of people vote in a “popularity contest” kind of way, like High School prom king & queen, so as much as I too want a “common sense, no non-sense” candidate I also see where most of these politicians don’t feel the need to deliver/appeal to the best of ourselves. It takes two to tango, right?

And that is why I’m not casting a vote for either a Democrat or Republican this election term because they’re both part of the main problem in the country, i.e. a lack of substance & wisdom when it matters most for the greater good and advancement of us all.

Hillary was a poor candidate, Barama is a poor candidate, and McCain is even worse. When these three sides of the same corrupt coin are the “choices” we get, it’s time for a new system. It makes little difference to me who wins the thing; all of the major candidates offer nothing more than “business as usual,” (possibly with better speechwriters in Obama’s case). I can guarantee that Obama, for all of his lofty talk, will not bring about any substantive change at this crucial moment in history. What new policy is he proposing that is a major change? Nothing! Look at his advisors if you think I’m crazy. It’s all feelgood rhetoric at amounts to zero. America is in the gutter and this sham election is just another rainstorm washing us out to the Sea of Collapse.

Go Kucinich! Go McKinney! Go Nader! (those should be our three choices, goddamnit).

Dude, as much as I LOVE CYNTHIA McKINNEY and her campaign goals, I still can’t get around the fact that her charisma and oratory skills are less than captivating … just watch any of her speeches to understand what I mean. Sorry, but charisma matters in a leader, and even a little of it goes a long way, especially for one that’s aiming to be President of the U.S., which is why I still can’t understand how a disconnected dimwit like Dubya got elected in the first place, let alone twice, but sheesh, if he can rise to POTUS, way not super-smart McKnney, right?! Well, at least in theory anyway…

Regarding Dennis Kucinich, again, I like his overall policies but there’s something about his delivery as well that is off base; and he comes off too preachy at times. I know he’s really smart, well intentioned and just tired of all the stupid b.s. out there (me too!) but the fact is a good segment of the population is IMPRESSIONABLE and VOTES, so you gotta appeal to those folks too, not just the liberal elites. That I believe is his main undoing, otherwise great candidate to support.

As for Ralph Nader (and yes he’s running in 2008 too!) he’s an odd one, but still noteworthy to watch. Plus he has the rare pair of cajones grande to actually do something meaningful about government accountability as well as rightly call for the impeachments of Prez George W. Bush and V.P. Dick Cheney (note: Kucinich actually drafted articles of impeachment for Cheney himself) for tanking the economy, fueling corporate greed and, my personal favorite, dragging the country into an illegal invasion of Iraq … and all for what exactly?! Certainly not for cheaper gas? It was $1.29 at the pump in 2003, and now five years later in 2008 the illegal war still continues while gas is now approaching $5 a gallon … that maths don’t done adds up y’all, and besides I thought the whole point of this invasion was for the discount? Things that make you go “hmmmm…”. And let’s not forget to mention the 4,000+ needless deaths of our service men & women just to rip off U.S. citizens at home and ship our jobs abroad. PRICELESS. “For everything else, there’s MasterCard.” Blood is on this current administration’s hands, BIG TIME, and at least someone like Ralph Nader, “spoiler” or not, can actually call a spade a spade.

But with all that said, I personally wouldn’t vote for Nader … he’s not the right fit this time around I believe, but the issues he brings up do need to be addressed (cleverly they never are (with real substance anyway) by the media coverage of the Republi-crats) but hopefully someone can pick up the torch in that department and inspire us all, for once, to elect a non-DNC and GOP party member to head of state that actually represents what you & I really want in U.S. government policy.
