London sees New York

Telectroscope Banner
Jason at the Telectroscope

I saw Jason again today, but this time from here in London! But how is that possible, isn’t he still in New York?! Yes but both cities have a public art piece on display called the Telectroscope that allows viewers from both sides of the Atlantic to see each other in real time by peering inside a makeshift telescope sticking up through the ground. Kool, huh!

On the Brooklyn side you’ll see the famous Tower Bridge, and here in London you’ll see the Brooklyn Bridge looking towards Manhattan. However you can’t hear each other so you see people sending a flurry of trans-Atlantic text-messages to each other to coordinate their efforts to wave to another via the “Telescope”. And for some reason it’s free in NYC and not in London, but since the value of a $ is so crappy these days I didn’t see the big deal in paying the £1 required on this side.

I guess this will only last for several days or so, until the 15th of this month, then no more cross-country voyeurism. Jason and & managed to coordinate the meet pretty well, despite being late on his end (sorry, couldn’t resist) and the experience of seeing your buddy through this thing was actually quite fun. But the question I have now is, where was Shannon?
