KG finally reaches the NBA’s promise land

Kevin Garnett on a wheaties box

I could care less who won the NBA finals this year, and I’m certainly not a Boston Celtics fan, but as a Kevin Garnett fan I’m very happy for him to finally reach the pinnacle of success in his 13 year as a pro by winning his first NBA championship. Respect also goes out to Ray Allen and Finals MVP Paul Pierce as well for being part of the new “big three” over there in bean-town.

I would have loved to see K.G. bring a title back to Minneapolis, but after 12 disappointing seasons in ’sota (though not for a lack of effort on his part) he was due and he finally got that monkey off his back last night. A lot of people throughout his career have unfairly criticized his style of play, and that’s what makes this win even more sweet because he did it while continuing to play his style of basketball, making use of his unique & versatile skillset for a big man. But in the end “The Big Ticket” gets the last laugh, and finally ends a season with a smile and sigh of relief for a change.

And well overdue.

How sad is it that my favorite player just won the NBA finals and I didn’t watch 5 minutes of the series?

NBA = unwatchable.

It’s too bad, really. Air Jordan superhypermarketingmania has turned the league into 85% entertainment hype and 15% legitimate athletic competition. About 4-5 years ago it crossed the threshold of tolerability and I stopped watching completely. I’ll stick to the NCAA, until they ruin that, too.
