While in Dublin I heard about the passing of legendary comedian George Carlin a few days ago and I couldn’t help but feel really sad at that news because we lost a great one. We really did. In honor of George’s memory I’m posting a few clips from some of his genius standup routines for you to enjoy.

It’s crazy. I was sitting in Michigan, talking to my parents and my brother when, somehow, George Carlin’s name came up. My mom said something about how he’s been dead for a while, had cancer or something. So we start arguing, my brother and I are telling her “no way,” that he’s still alive. My dad’s just agreeing with her because he doesn’t know (”Yeah, I think your mother’s right. I remember seeing that on the news.”) Anyway, my gal and I head back toward Minnesota through the U.P. we’re shopping in a thrift store in downtown Manistique the next morning when it comes over the radio: George Carlin had passed away the day before from heart failure. So weird. Anyway, all you Carlin fans out there have my mom to thank for his untimely demise. She jinxed him. Way to go, mom…

Another good clip from George Carlin, a topic right up my alley, it’s called “Soft Language”:

BTW, that’s cold about your mom Ryan, how could she!?

Even more crude, vulgar, insightful, and hilarious live. If you didn’t see him in person, you missed out. I had a chance to see Red Foxx the weekend before he died in Vegas, but I was 21, stupid, and missed out. Never again.
Still on my list to see…
Denis Leary
Eddie Murphy (you know he’s doing Vegas within 10 years)
Bill Cosby (Cosby Show ruined him, but he seems to be bitter now)
Guys you should see, if you get the chance…
Bobcat
Norm MacDonald
Carrot Top (don’t laugh, it’s a great show)
Robert Schimmel
Al Madrigal
I remember how popular the live comedy shows were in the 80s. And all of the sudden, everyone stopped going. I guess it wasn’t cool anymore. Anyways, it’s still a good time, you should check em out.
