2008 All Star Game at Yankee Stadium

What a way to celebrate the final season of Yankee Stadium by having the famed ballpark play host to this year’s All Star Game. Even sweeter that the American League continued it’s mid-summer classic dominance by coming back to win 4-3 on the last play in a 15 inning thriller against the National League.
I tried my best to keep up with the game here in London but unfortunately being 5 time zones ahead of New York makes that kind of tough. When I last got online to see the score at 3 am the NL was up 2-0 at the bottom of the 7th and I figured the AL was toast and called it a night. And thank goodness too, because “watching” the ASG online is a pain and had I tried staying up longer I wouldn’t have gone to bed until about 6:45am this morning! The game ended up being 5 hours long, the longest for any All Star game. How fitting for the “House that Ruth Built”. But it was great waking up to hearing the AL beat the NL. Again. Justin Morneau is a stud.

Also, is it just me, or does anyone else think Alex Rodriguez was a selfish jerk for not participating in the home-run derby earlier in the week? He’s a member of the NY Yankees voted in by fans to attend All Star Weekend at the hallowed grounds of Yankee Stadium during it’s final season in existence no less, so, I mean, how can you say no to that?! He bemoans an excuse to something of the effect “my batting mechanics might get screwed up”. What!? Oh puh-leaze, you’re a friggin’ professional baseball player, one of the best in the game and you’re going to try to sell me on some b.s. that for ONE DAY during the middle of the season of hitting for homers is going to ruin your “swing mechanics” for the remainder of the year?!! Plus, dude is making $25 million per season and he can’t even try to appease baseball fans with what they wanted to see for one day, namely him swinging for the fences? What a jackass.

Oh and I love the Yankee ASG logo, it’s a well done balance between pinstripe tradition and commemorating the final season of Yankee Stadium. Geez, what I would have given to have been riding the 4 train last night near 163rd street up in da Bronx…

Yeah, just so we’re clear again–Dan Uggla is dead to me.
I wonder how much of a bonus he got for being an All Star and striking out 3 times, grounding into a double play and my personal favorite–3 of the 4 NL errors were thanks to him. What a display of douchebaggery. Two errors back to back too! Ugh!
At least my Cubbies pitched well, too bad they didn’t hit for shit. Dempster striking out the side in the 9th was beautiful. Big Z shoulda beaned Manny.
A-Rod is a big whiny titty baby. Madonna has corrupted him with the siren song of her Hoo-Hot. A siren song many thousands of men have heard before. I think he should be more concerned with her potentially screwed up his mechanics. Dude needs to get over himself. Seriously.
Did I mention Dan Uggla is dead to me?

I stayed up to the bitter end. Amazing game, especially the defenses (minus that horses ass Uggla). Its kinda hard to get up for an all star game when your team has sucked for years but what a game. Francona was quite respectful towards the Yankees with his removal of the players to solo applause. Nice gesture. ……..Its a good thing I was off work today.

Kat, I nearly pissed myself reading your post. CLASSIC!
And Dave, good eye on Francona; he’s a class act… even if he still is the skipper of the Bo’Sox.

Oh boy that was a boring ass All Star game.
Of course Francona is a class act, not all boston are a bunch of bean fucks. I still think he looks like he could be Tom Morello’s dad (Rage)…
Way too many errors in the game last night. And the parade, ahem tell me those cars were hybrids. What a bunch of garbage going down 6th Ave when gas prices are where they are… I mean they could of easily put Pay-Rod on a donkey and sent them on the route.

To clarify my earlier post, I am a Pirates fan. What is it 15 or 16 years of losing, good thing they sell beer at the games.

Interesting.
I hugely object to taxpayers getting burdened by the construction of these stadiums, yet in this case (and my bias to the side) I think there isn’t some grand evil being done here with the bond request as the new Yankee Stadium has been substantially financed by private funding and the Bronx will benefit from the endeavor.
