Kiyo in London

Kiyo jumping at Trafalgar Square

My very good friend Kiyo was in England over the weekend visiting some of his family in Brighton and we managed to meet up a couple of times in London during his short stay. As always it is a treat to spend time with Kiyo and we simply walked around the city for bit, mostly catching up on all things Mina (his daughter), while taking in the views on what was a really beautiful weekend here in London.

The first day he was in the capitol we tried to take some more “jumping” pictures together behind the buildings where the Prime Minister’s office is located near 10 Downing Street but we were having a hard time getting the timing down on our automatic cameras, so those didn’t come out too great. However, we did managed to get a couple of good shots of him jumping at Trafalgar Square earlier.

The last day I saw him we walked along the River Thames and make a quick visit to the Tate Modern museum. Afterwards, we asked a random stranger outside if he wouldn’t mind taking a picture of the two of us with St. Paul’s Cathedral in the background. The man replied, and I quote:

“sure, but I don’t want to be doing it all day like some Japanese tourist.”

Kiyo, who is Japanese, looked at me like “WTF?!” and within seconds of blurting out the comment I think the man realized what an unobservant moron he was and tried to cover his ass by asking “oh, I’m sorry, you’re not… Japanese are you?!”. Kiyo was still a bit stunned by the initial comment but for the sake of quickly getting rid of the stereotyping racist I promptly replied “Oh, no worries man, he’s Chinese.” (as if it really matters either way) and strangely enough he actually looked a bit more relieved, took his two awful photos of us and moved on. Priceless.

Kiyo, in the future you’ll have to visit London again for a longer duration, your visit was much too short. And bring Ulli & Mina with you because just imagine all the other weirdo’s we can run into here together in London?! That and we have to get Mina jumping up in the air with us in the photos as well, it’s good to start them young with that stuff I’m told.
